Technical & A/V Recommendations

Digital projector

Digital projector and large screen (projector should be one with fairly high lumens, 5000+, if possible especially if there is significant ambient light in the venue as glacier images and videos are more prone to washout with ambient light).

Microphone

Hand-held wireless microphone or lapel/discrete microphone (wireless to permit movement around the platform and/or venue. Fixed podium microphone should be avoided)

Laptop Audio Connection

A laptop audio connection to the venue’s audio system or external speakers (the presentation has a number of short video / audio clips).

Apple Presentation

Alan’s presentations are built in Keynote (an Apple program) and have a lot of embedded images, videos, audio and custom timings. For this reason, it is recommended that we connect his MacBook Pro to the A/V system. Other scenarios, such as exporting a PowerPoint file, are possible but are much more prone to compatibility issues, missing video codecs and improper timings.

Electric Violin Connection

For Alan’s programs where he incorporates his electric violin music, we’ll also need a soundboard near the podium that accepts a 1/4” TS instrument cable, or an alternative way of capturing electronic instrument output (conversion to XLR run to audio table or direct speaker 1/4” connection for example).

Table for Violin

For Alan’s programs where he incorporates his electric violin music, it is best to have a small cocktail table on stage to so Alan has somewhere to put the instrument when switching back and forth between playing and speaking.
